If you’re looking for a great spot for lunch in Tokyo, consider visiting the Sanshuya Ginza in Ginza 2 Chome. This restaurant is known for its izakaya (Japanese-style bar) atmosphere at night, but it serves as a diner offering set meals during the day. We recently had the grilled Sanma (saury) set meal and a sashimi rice bowl and were very satisfied with both the taste and portion size of these reasonably priced meals. Please visit Sanshuya and experience traditional Japanese home-style meals.

Sanshuya Ginza

The restaurant is located at 2-3-4 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. It is just a 3-minute walk from Ginza 1 Chome Station on the Yurakucho Subway Line and a 5-minute walk from JR Yurakucho Station. While the restaurant is situated in the heart of Ginza, it can be a bit difficult to find for first-time visitors.

The picture displays a sign for Sanshuya Ginza located on Namiki-dori Avenue in Ginza 2 Chome. The poster measures approximately 1 meter in height and 80 centimeters in width. The prices for four set menus are written in red on a whiteboard. The prices are as follows: assorted sashimi for 1,100 yen, yellowtail teriyaki for 1,000 yen, grilled fish for 950 yen, and various fried fish for 1,100 yen.

The restaurant is marked by a sign on Namiki-dori Avenue in Ginza 2 Chome. Do not miss the sign standing on the west side of the street. Just before the sign, turn into the alley, and you will find Sanshuya Ginza at the end of the path.

This photograph depicts the alley where the Sanshuuya Ginza store is located. The path has a width of 2 meters and a depth of 20 meters, with buildings lining both sides. At the end of the alley, you can see the entrance to the restaurant, marked by a white Noren curtain with "御食事 三州屋(Goshokuji Sanshuya)" written in Japanese.

When we arrived at the store, we noticed a curtain with “三州屋(Sanshuya)” written in Japanese on a white cloth at the entrance. Upon entering through the curtain and sliding door, we found the restaurant packed with customers and a lively atmosphere. We visited the restaurant around 1:30 p.m. on a Saturday and noticed that most customers were enjoying sake and eating lunch.

The restaurant had several menus displayed on its walls. The majority of the dishes offered contained seafood. Prices for each dish ranged from 600 to 1,000 yen.

The set menus of the day are written on a whiteboard, and you can choose from options such as a seafood rice bowl, fried horse mackerel, fried shrimp, grilled salt-crusted Akinoto fish, simmered Red bream, simmered Patagonian toothfish, and sashimi. The set menus are priced at 1,050 yen for the fried horse mackerel and 1,010 yen for the other options.

Upon entering the restaurant, the staff directed me to an available table. The waitstaff, all women, were very efficient and helpful. I placed an order for the Salt-grilled Saury and the Sashimi rice bowl.

This photograph depicts a bag of disposable chopsticks placed on a table. The bag is white with the words "大衆割烹 三州屋 (Japanese cuisine for the masses Sanshuya)" written in black Japanese characters.

The female staff promptly brought me chopsticks and tea. She then brought out pickled vegetables and miso soup.

Nameko Miso Soup

The miso soup was very hot and therefore couldn’t be consumed immediately. It was filled with nameko mushrooms and tofu and had a strong flavor.

Salt-grilled Saury

The saury was cooked until the surface was charred. While it wasn’t particularly fatty, the saltiness was well-balanced, and I enjoyed the dish with rice.

Sashimi rice bowl

The sashimi rice bowl was visually striking, with the sliced raw fish arranged atop a bed of warm rice. The selection of sashimi included tuna, bonito, yellowtail, salmon roe, squid, octopus, and sweet shrimp, all of which were fresh and cut into generous pieces.

We had a wonderful lunch at Sanshuya Ginza in Ginza 2 Chome. In addition to the salt-grilled saury and sashimi rice bowl that I enjoyed, the restaurant offers a wide range of seafood dishes, including boiled fish and fried fish. If you’re deciding where to eat in Ginza, I recommend stopping by Sanshuya Ginza.
