KIRIN City Plus Tokyo Ginza
KIRIN City is located just a quick walk away from the main street of Ginza. To get there, turn at the Ginza 3 Chome intersection in the direction of Yurakucho Station. The restaurant is on the second floor of a building on the right side of the street.
Here is a video of the food and interior of KIRIN City.
Heartland Beer
I ordered a Heartland beer, which arrived approximately 5 minutes after I placed the order.
Heartland beer was made using only malt, hops, and water. It had a mild bitterness and a simple yet delicious barley flavor.
One secret to having a great beer at KIRIN City is to pour it into the glass three times.
Step 1: Vigorously pour the beer into the glass, filling it with foam.
Step 2: Allow the bitterness and carbonation to dissipate for a bit.
Step 3: Add two more pours of beer. The beer is ready to drink when the bubbles rise.
COBB Bowl
I ordered a salad topped with French dressing, which included lettuce, avocado, tomato, chicken, boiled egg, and crispy bacon.
The COBB Bowl, a type of salad named after Robert H. Cobb, who owned the Hollywood restaurant Brown Derby, originated from a salad he created in 1937 using leftovers from his fridge.
Sauteed ocellated octopus and shrimp
When the plate arrived, a garlic and olive oil aroma filled the air. The octopus and shrimp had a pleasing texture, and the dish would pair well with beer.
Lamb steak “Lamb Teki”
The lamb steak was seasoned with a teriyaki marinade and perfectly cooked. The meat was tender and flavorful, with no off-putting odor or unusual taste. The accompanying French fries were crisp and complemented the lamb.
Pizza Margherita
The pizza was delicious with its melted cheese, refreshing tomato sauce, basil, and crispy dough. The colors of the Italian flag inspired the green basil, white mozzarella cheese, and red tomato sauce.
The pizza called “Margherita” got its name from a visit by King Umberto I of Italy and his queen, Margherita, to Naples in June 1889. The queen was said to have been pleased to see that the pizza was the same colors as the Italian flag, leading to the pizza being named in her honor.
Garlic toast
This toast had a crispy exterior and a chewy interior. It had been soaked in garlic oil, making it a great snack to have with beer.
Baked “potato noodles” with whitebait
In KIRIN City, “potato noodles” are a specialty. They are a galette made by slicing potatoes thin like noodles and baking them in olive oil. The potatoes come out crispy, and the aroma of the seaweed and shiso leaves on top is delicious.
Rich green tea pudding
The dessert was a Rich Green Tea Pudding. It had the perfect balance of bitterness from the matcha and sweetness from the pudding.
I enjoyed the beer and the thoughtfully chosen ingredients at KIRIN City in Ginza. If you can dine in Ginza, I recommend stopping by this restaurant.
