However, you can also enjoy delightful soba noodles&nbsp;(buckwheat noodles) in Kyoto. Let us introduce you to Kawamichi-ya, a soba restaurant on Fuyacho-Dori Street in Kyoto. Steve Jobs and David Bowie were also regular patrons of this soba restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On day 2 in Kyoto, I woke up early and visited Nanzen-Ji Temple and Honen-in Temple. For breakfast, I ate bread at Sanjo-Kawaramachi Shinshindo. After breakfast, I played along the Kamo River and saw the Kyoto Botanical Gardens. I returned to Kyoto City for lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"584\" src=\"https:\/\/careerchange-diary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Misoka-an-Kamo-River-20221127_en.webp\" alt=\"This picture shows stepping stones over the Kamo River. They are known for their \u201cSoba-horu\u201d (buckwheat flour cookies).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I arrived at the store around 1:00 p.m. and was able to be seated without reservation. I entered the restaurant through the white shop curtain hanging at the entrance, which had the name \u201cMisoka-an Kawamichi-ya\uff08\u6666\u5eb5 \u6cb3\u9053\u5c4b\uff09\u201d written in black letters. The interior of the store had a relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"i-1\">Soba restaurant frequented by Steve Jobs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve Jobs was fascinated by Japanese culture and often took his family to Kyoto. On his last visit to the city before he passed away, he tried out a soba restaurant that he had never been to before. Oshima Hiroshi, who served as Jobs\u2019 driver and tour guide during his time in Kyoto, recalls how it went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cI once tried taking him to a different place but he didn\u2019t finish the meal,\u201d Oshima says. \u201cHe asked me to take him to his usual place to eat again.\u201d<\/p><cite><a href=\"https:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/nhkworld\/en\/news\/backstories\/1622\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www3.nhk.or.jp\/nhkworld\/en\/news\/backstories\/1622\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steve Jobs in Kyoto<\/a> \u2013 quoted from NHK WORLD-JAPAN News<br><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>When Oshima asked Jobs what he didn\u2019t like about the restaurant, Jobs replied, \u201cThe nori on the soba rolls doesn\u2019t taste the way it should. So I want to eat again at my usual soba restaurant.\u201d For Jobs, the \u201cusual soba restaurant\u201d was \u201cMisoka-an Kawamichi-ya,\u201d where he had his last \u201csoba roll\u201d in his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"i-6\"><strong>Grated radish and buckwheat noodles<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tea soba noodles served with grated radish.
